Patriotcast.com

Beginning in the Fall of 2005 I investigated podcasting. This resulted in the creation of my podcast entitled Patriotcast. The home page for Patriotcast is www.patriotcast.com. The podcasts can be downloaded directly from the site's blog, Patriotcast Blog, by clicking on the title of each posting. The podcast is also available via iTunes. Simply search for Patriotcast in iTunes.

Reading List

I love to read but never make enough time for it. In spite of this, I average about a book a month. I read both fiction and non-fiction. During the summer I read on the beach and save fiction for then.

Simply click here to go to my reading list. I've attempted to assign a date read to each book. For most of the books this is merely an approximation and therefore may be incorrect. I hope to convert this information into a MySql database and allow visitors to sort the list to their preference or inquire about an author or a title. I also would like to add a commentary field where I can provide a brief review.

Presentations

Over the past few years I have made Powerpoint presentations on various topics to two groups, The Massachusetts Route 128 Chapter of the Institute of Management Accountants and BMAC, Boston Macintosh User Group. PDF versions of the presentations are available. Simply click on the presentation links to the left or go to presentations.

Photos

I now have two sections to display photos. Originally, I maintained my own web pages displaying photos. I chose this approach because of the inflexibility built into the various photo display sites. The downside with this approach was the amount of time it would take to create each web page.

In August 2007 I purchased iLife '08. The new versions of iPhoto, iWeb and .Mac provide excellent mechanisms to display photos. I am now using these tools to display and distribute my photos, slideshows and movies. I hope you enjoy them.

My new photos can be found at http://web.mac.com/garrettharding/.

My original photos are still accessible by simply clicking on photos.

Website Design

Open Source Web Design
The template for the site came from Open Source Web Design at www.oswd.org. The name of the template is Sinorca. The following edited comments are from the original author/designer haran.
Cross-browser consistency
Cross-browser consistency is a result of Sinorca’s comprehensive screen stylesheet. Major style parameters are explicitly defined in the stylesheet, resulting in less dependence on browser-determined defaults and thus fewer rendering idiosyncrasies.
Alternative stylesheet
An alternative stylesheet has been provided. To view the alternative stylesheet in (certain) Gecko-based browsers, select Sinorca (alternative) from the ViewUse Style submenu.
Print media stylesheet
Sinorca has a print media stylesheet that styles the page in a format appropriate for black and white printing. To see the effect of this stylesheet, select print preview from the file menu, or direct this page to a printer.
Accessibility
Sinorca has accessibility features for people with impaired vision. The template conforms to the WCAG double A rating and § 508 guidelines for web content accessibility. The relative simplicity of the template’s underlying markup ensures that the page can be easily transformed for rendering in aural, tactile (braille) and other non-visual user agents.
Additionally, the majority of document metrics (widths, lengths and spacings) are font-size relative. This means that a user can increase the default font size of the page (using their browser) without compromising it’s layout.
